Mark M. Lowenthal is an intelligence expert. He served as the assistant director of Central Intelligence for Analysis & Production, the vice chairman for Evaluation on the National Intelligence Council, and as counselor to the director of Central Intelligence.

Lowenthal was the staff director of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence in the 104th Congress and served in the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research, as both an office director and a deputy assistant secretary of state, and was the senior specialist in U.S. Foreign Policy at the Congressional Research Service, Library of Congress.

In the private sector, Lowenthal was the president of the Intelligence & Security Academy. He has written extensively on intelligence and national security issues, including ten books and over 100 articles or studies. He has appeared on each of the major networks, CNN, and the PBS Newshour; his op-eds have appeared in The New York Times and The Washington Post.

Lowenthal received his B.A. from Brooklyn College and his Ph.D. in history from Harvard University. He is on the adjunct faculty of the Nitze School for Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University and is a visiting professor at the Norwegian Defence Intelligence School. He has been an adjunct at Columbia University and Sciences Po in Paris (Institut d'études politiques de Paris).

He was awarded the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, and the AFCEA’s Distinguished Service Award for service to the intelligence community. Lowenthal also was the Grand Champion on Jeopardy!.
