March 30 Update – Reunion Weekend 2021

Georgetown University Reunion Announcement

Dear Georgetown University Alumni Community,

I have never been prouder to be a Hoya. Over the past year Georgetown has remained steadfast in its commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of our community, and our community has exhibited new levels of resilience, care, and compassion. As we have all come to know, such a commitment requires us to make hard choices.

After consulting campus partners and alumni leaders, and closely monitoring the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the extraordinarily difficult decision to host this year’s Reunion (June 3-6, 2021) virtually instead of on campus as we had hoped.

While I imagine this news does not come as a surprise, I know it comes with disappointment for us all. Reunion is a deeply cherished tradition at Georgetown, one that we look forward to hosting on the Hilltop each spring. We know a virtual Reunion will never fully replace an in-person one, but it does afford us the opportunity to celebrate creatively and to welcome more Hoyas to participate who might not typically be able to attend in person.

Our team has been planning for this possibility for months and I am pleased to share we already have a remarkable slate of all-class events underway. We are also beginning to work with your class leaders to plan class-specific opportunities to celebrate your reunion. Please consider joining your class committee and/or sharing your thoughts and ideas via this survey.

I promise you that your Reunion is in good hands. Over the past year, Georgetown has developed an expertise in hosting successful and engaging virtual events. We have also been working closely with peer institutions to learn from their recent experiences hosting virtual reunions.

I especially take comfort knowing this event will be a success because of you. While there is no setting more perfect for Reunion than the Hilltop, you, the alumni, are what makes the event truly special. And I am grateful that this year’s format will make Reunion more accessible to even more Hoyas across the world. Thank you for your continued understanding and support. We look forward to celebrating with you June 3-6.

Sincerely,

Paul T. Lanzone
Associate Vice President, Alumni Engagement

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will we be able to celebrate our reunion in person at a later date?

Unfortunately, we are unable to commit to hosting, combining, or otherwise “making up” your reunion in person at a later time. For this reason, we are planning your Virtual Reunion as a one-of-a-kind virtual celebration for our community of alumni, family, and friends. We hope you will join us in making it as successful as possible, as alumni from all over the globe will be able to participate in an array of timely events.

  • Why can’t we celebrate our reunion in combination with other alumni events (e.g. Homecoming or Reunion Weekend 2022)?

Unfortunately, we are unable to combine your Reunion with other on campus events due to resource, space, and timing constraints.

  • What will a virtual reunion look like?

While this year’s Reunion Weekend will look vastly different than previous iterations, we’re excited to offer a unique and engaging (full) slate of virtual programming to our alumni, family, and friends. This one-of-a-kind virtual celebration will integrate key reunion traditions, while also bringing new and exciting programs that are only made possible in a virtual format. From panel discussions with prominent alumni to family-friendly events for Hoyas of all ages, there will be something for everyone, no matter where you are in the world!

  • How will I be able to connect with my class during virtual reunion?

We are eager to work with your class committee to plan a personalized virtual evening celebration. Each class committee has a dedicated professional staff liaison to support their planning efforts. A class event can be anything from Georgetown Trivia to a cocktail-making or cooking demonstration, and provides a unique opportunity to connect with classmates from across the globe!

  • How can I get involved in virtual reunion planning?

We welcome any and all alumni to get involved to help spread the word and plan a special virtual event. You can get connected to your class committee and staff liaison by sending us an email today!

  • Will events be recorded? Can I watch them at a later date?

Absolutely, all intellectual events will be recorded if you are unable to attend live!

  • I have an idea – how do I share it?

We welcome you to share your ideas with us, or with your Class Committee or Staff Liaison. We’ve created a survey to solicit feedback – please share your thoughts here. We will take all ideas into consideration, however please note, due to the volume of responses, we will be unable to accommodate all suggestions.
