Thor Cheston is the co-founder and co-owner of Right Proper Brewing Company. In 2006, Cheston teamed up with Washington chef Ruth Gresser to transform an underutilized basement dining space at Pizzeria Paradiso Georgetown into Birreria Paradiso, rated by BeerAdvocate.com as one of the best beer bars in the world.

Cheston then worked as the beer buyer for Eulogy Belgian Tavern before returned to Washington, DC. to help open Brasserie Beck with renowned chef Robert Wiedmaier. Under his direction, Brasserie Beck was recognized by The Washington Post and BeerAdvocate.com as one of the top beer bars in DC.

In 2009, Cheston was inducted into the Knighthood of the Brewers’ Mashstaff in Brussels, Belgium. While still general manager at Brasserie Beck, Cheston opened Mussel Bar for the Robert Wiedmaier Group as a managing partner in 2010. In 2011, he left his roles at Brasserie Beck and Mussel Bar to pursue his long-held dream of opening his own brewery.

He opened Right Proper Brewing Company in 2013 in the historic Shaw neighborhood of Washington, DC, Cheston and his partners soon opened a 4,500-barrel capacity production facility in 2015 in the Brookland neighborhood of Washington, DC, allowing Right Proper beers to reach retail and off-premise accounts throughout the region. Today, Right Proper beers are available across DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

When not at the brewery, Cheston enjoys spending time with his wife, Leah, and their children, Olivine and Rex.
