Welcome Home Luncheon Explores Georgetown's Work on Religious, Cultural Understanding
At the Welcome Home Luncheon at noon on Friday, May 30, President John J. DeGioia and Tom Banchoff, Director of Georgetown's Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs, will engage participants in a conversation about Georgetown's ambitious efforts to promote interreligious and intercultural understanding through research, teaching, and outreach. Among the highlights of the discussion will be an update on Georgetown's exciting new collaboration with the World Economic Forum. The collaboration has led to an annual report on West and Islam dialogue. Released at the Forum's annual meeting in Davos this past January, Islam and the West: Annual Report on the State of Dialogue 2008 offers a systematic overview of how Muslim and Western societies perceive and relate to each other at the political, social, economic and cultural levels.
"For decades the study of international relations engaged religion only on the margins," Banchoff says. "The study of world affairsand the deliberation of policy makersneeds to make room for religion." The report is available download at islamwest.org.
